Don Soledad Trio will be performing for students, faculty, staff and the community. This is a free event.
Raised
in a musical family of guitarists and pianists, Don naturally took an
interest in musical instruments at a young age. He played various
styles of the guitar taught by his older brother and uncles during his
childhood years. Not fully content with learning one instrument, he
then moved onto the drums in his adolescent years and performed with
bands at clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area. After a short layoff from
music, the rhythmic structures of flamenco captivated his interests
back into the guitar. Soon-after exposure to concerts and recordings of
great flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia, he ultimately found where his
heart truly belonged — the Spanish flamenco guitar.
Don's
unique personal approach has nuances of flamenco, Latin jazz and
classical guitar. His flamenco guitar studies vary from the traditional
style of Mariano Cordoba and Agustin Rios (nephew of legendary flamenco
guitarist Diego del Gastor), to the modern flamenco style with
guitarist Juan Diego Mateos of Jerez, Spain.
